- Large, conical bill
- Large, flat head
- Short tail
- Olive face
- Two dark "whiskers"
- Buffy streaked breast and sides
- White belly and undertail coverts
- Narrow, whitish crown stripe
- Rusty wing coverts
- Dark and light streaking on back
- Sexes similar
- Juvenile plumage (Summer, sometimes Fall) similar to adult but has fine
streaks confined to sides of breast
- Found in open fields with tall herbaceous vegetation

The Henslow's Sparrow can be told from other sparrows by its olive face and
rusty wings.
