Identification Tips for Wood Frog
3-6cm (1.3-2.3 inches) long; pink, tan, or dark brown; light beneath; dark
mask through the eye; light stripe on upper lip; prominent dorsolateral
ridges. 500-800 brown to black eggs are laid in globular masses 5-10cm in
diameter, attached to sticks or debris in woodland ponds that are often
ephemeral. Tadpoles are brown with black and gold dorsal flecks, a slightly
lighter-colored tail, and are an iridescent bluish-white beneath; they grow
from about 10mm at hatching to 30-40cm at transformation. Outside of the
breeding season, adults live on the forest floor.
