(/pwrc/pwrc.html).
This project was begun in 1996, as part of a larger project on bird
monitoring at several geographic scales. The United States Fish and Wildlife
Service Region 5 (Northeastern United States) has developed a protocol for
monitoring landbirds on National Wildlife Refuges. To evaluate the
use of these surveys as a tool for monitoring birds, we implemented
a survey of breeding birds in June 1996 and conducted additional replicate
surveys to assess possible variation in counts associated with observers.
Methods: Point counts were conducted on a systematic grid throughout the Center, and mapped to allow analysis of bird distributions.
Here are the bird species distribution maps
.
We have also been developing an extensive GIS for the Center.
Vegetation maps
will be used to refine the bird species distribution maps in future analyses.
