Snowy Plover

The gray legs are the best field mark for identifying this species in any plumage. Juveniles and some females in winter can be browner than Piping Plovers and easily confused with them. The bill size and shape is very hard to use in the field. In winter breast bands cannot be used to safely identify Semipalmated Plover as there is a lot of individual variation.

Snowy Plovers nest in a scrape on the open beach in South-Southwest Florida.
